D. McCarthy, snappedpictures of many of the greatest players of all time from both the American andNational Leagues in major league baseball.If the player liked McCarthy’sphoto shot he took of them, the player could order a supply of postcards madefrom that image taken. These postcards, in turn, were used by the player forresponding to fan mail requests for autographs. It was his postcards thatactually caught the eye of baseball collectors and later, The Topps Company (amanufacturer of trading cards) who hired the sports photographer, JD McCarthyon a freelance basis. This created a larger market for JD McCarthy and heeventually branched out, producing postcards of basketball, football and hockeyplayers.___________________________________________________________Presented in this auction,is a GEORGE KELL - rare ORIGINAL J.D. McCarthy 8x10 photo image seen in the JDMcCarthy photo collection. Circa -1959-63 DetroitTigers Broadcaster. Card stock photo paper. Original variations (A,C, E).
